How do I know if a boat company is legitimate?

Should I book online or wait until I arrive?
For peak season (July-August), book ahead - popular boats and dates fill up. In shoulder season, you have more flexibility. Booking ahead also gives you time to check the company properly instead of deciding on the harbor in a hurry.

Good companies offer a refund or a new date when the skipper cancels because of the weather. Always get the cancellation and weather terms in writing before you pay a deposit. Be careful with any company that is vague about this.
